There are some moments you never forget. For some, it might include their first kiss, their first date, their first day of college, the first day at work.
Well, here’s my quirky side coming out. I also remember my first experience using Excel’s logic formula, “IF.” I remember being in the office back in 2000 and having a colleague explain to me how the” IF” formula could change my spreadsheets from simple arithmetic projects to what seemed to me to be a thinking, living and reasoning friend.
“If this, than that.”
That was my Excel moment. Since that one epiphanic point in time, my spreadsheet experiences have never been the same. Soon thereafter, I discovered the CountIF and the SumIF formulae, as well as the AND and OR options.
No longer was Excel just a place to add, subtract, multiply and divide figures. It became a canvas of creativity. If I could imagine the path to solving a problem, I could create a formula to assist me.
All these possibilities did not even include Array Formulae, a discussion of which we’ll save for another day.
What about you? Do you have a favorite Excel Formula or remember the moment when Excel became for you something more than just a simple calculator? Please share your thoughts in the comments.
